What Affects Aluminum Fences in Florida

Oxidation and chalking: Aluminum's natural oxide layer — what prevents it from rusting — becomes visible when it builds up on the surface as a white or gray powdery residue. UV radiation accelerates this process significantly, and Florida's sun intensity is among the highest in the continental US. The powder-coat paint applied to most residential aluminum fences also chalks over time as UV breaks down the paint binder — leaving a dull, faded appearance and a chalky residue when you run a finger across the surface.
